A winter treat at Penbontbren

Our winter stay at Penbontbren was a most comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable break in spite of the weather doing its worst! Our hosts Kathryn and Richard were so welcoming and have ensured that their 5 star rating is very well merited. The generous, well equipped accommodation in our suite was very much appreciated. We enjoyed cosy evenings in after a day out braving the rain using the catering facilities provided. Our breakfasts were delicious too! We found plenty to explore in the area - the quiet time of year gave us easy access down narrow lanes, and beautiful empty beaches for our dog to race around. We enjoyed antique hunting, and the Wool Museum near Newcastle Emlyn. We found good cafes and restaurants to keep us well fed. We can highly recommend a luxury break here whatever the time of year, and hope to visit again to enjoy some more first rate R&R. Thank you, Kathryn and Richard.

Fabulous long weekend in West Wales

A wonderful scenic and quiet location, together with amazing gardens and grounds. Our double suite room was spacious, clean, extremely comfortable and furnished to a high standard. We both slept the best in ages in the cosy king sized bed, and lovely quiet atmosphere. Kathryn and Richard were excellent hosts, very welcoming and cook a great breakfast! We will definitely be going back again.

The perfect place for a relaxing break - friendly helfpul hosts, lovely rooms and plenty to do whatever the weather.

The perfect spot to relax and explore this glorious part of Wales for the first time. The location is secluded and peaceful but with plenty to do nearby whatever the weather. We loved the walks we took on the glorious coastal path and inland, stopping for lunch at place recommended by our lovely helpful hosts, Kathryn and Richard - superb fish and chips on the sea wall one day, a riverside pub lunch on another. A wet day sent us off to the family run Daffodil pub ten minutes away for a proper locally sourced Sunday lunch, another recommendation and a real find.

The rooms are very comfortable and combined the best of b&b (delicious breakfast and helpful, knowledgeable hosts) with the convenience of self catering (happy dogs, the ability to cook a simple meal in the little kitchenette and curl up on the sofa in the pleasant sitting room for a movie night. The grounds are beautiful and our dogs loved them too. We need to come back in the summer to try the croquet lawn.

Most of all we loved this part of Wales - so friendly and unassuming, delicious local food, wonderful unspoilt countryside. We felt like we'd discovered a wonderful secret place perfect for a break at any time of year (if you come prepared for a bit of weather!) Penbentbren is the perfect base for such a stay. We're already planning our next trip.

A lovely peaceful set up and we defy anyone not to be happy here, especially after those delicious breakfasts! We all loved Penbontbren!

Six of us visiting Wales for the first time. We found Penbontbren on a search for somewhere near Cardigan. What a find, This is a really lovely place to stay a few miles inland from the coast, we were there for two nights. All the rooms are suites so you get a sitting room, bedroom and a small kitchen area. Kathryn and Richard could not have been nicer, kinder or more helpful. After a bit of a disastrous stay in North Wales we were up for something a lot better and this absolutely hit the spot. It’s a lovely peaceful set up and we defy anyone not to be happy here, especially after those delicious breakfasts! We all loved Penbontbren!

A very friendly welcome to our beautifully furnished apartment with views of the garden.

On arrival my wife and I received a very friendly welcome to our beautifully furnished apartment with views of the garden. Our hosts greeted us in the morning and introduced us to a breakfast menu based on locally sourced food which was excellently presented and prepared.

This quality of accommodation and service was maintained throughout until our departure. And our little terrier (Poppy) enjoyed it too particularly the freedom of the gardens.

Found the most idyllic place to relax and unwind. Katherine and Richard are great hosts and the breakfast was excellent, silver service and plenty of choice. Wonderful suite with a huge superking bed that was very comfortable and lots of 'special touches' even a card and chocolates when they found we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. Will definitely be going back soon.
Well deserved 5*

One of a wonderfully isolated set of ground floor suites, with its own lounge and kitchenette. Ours had a twin bedroom and the beds were very comfortable, the lounge had a settee and armchair and both rooms had a television. There was a fridge and microwave in the kitchenette and a small breakfast bar. Each suite has it's own outdoor area to sit and the surrounding garden is large. Breakfast was spot on and taken in a beautifully laid out room in the owner's house opposite the suites. The owners are extremely nice, and on our last morning went out of their way to provide us with bacon sandwiches to take with us, as we had to leave before the designated breakfast times. We didn't get to have the full benefits of the garden and surrounding countryside because of the time of year, but we had two wonderful nights staying here and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

All round a stellar stay. Great room, best breakfasts ever (good gluten free selection) and very welcoming and warm hosts - Richard and Kathryn.

Looking forward to our next visit..still so much to see in the area.

Kathryn and Richard are great hosts. They could not have been more helpful. The 'room' is actually a suite with a lounge with a TV and radio, good Wifi, a kitchenette with microwave and fridge, and good-sized bathroom. There is a verandah and a lovely garden with plenty of space. Everything is spotlessly clean and the bed is very comfortable. We enjoyed a cooked breakfast every day and there is a good choice. We will definitely be back again.

We had high hopes for Penbontbren, for a relaxing few days whilst touring some parts of West Wales for some family history locations. It didn't disappoint. A beautiful mid-point between a hotel and self-catering. Having the lounge area made it possible to relax in a way which isn't always so easy in a hotel. We didn't cook, but we could see the facilities would allow the preparation of simple food should we wish to do so on a future visit. The suite was every bit as good as the pictures imply. Breakfasts were delicious; they were generous without being overwhelming. The best review I can give is that we hope to return; so often when we hope that somewhere will entice us to do that, it doesn't quite live up to expectations. Thank you for a lovely a few days.

We have visited here a few times and it just gets better. If you want a luxurious relaxing time in lovely surroundings then this is the place to go. From the time you arrive until you leave then it is a lovely experience. Kathryn and Richard make you feel very welcome indeed (not forgetting other members of the team of course and the dog) and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are large and are really suites and in excellent condition as are the extensive grounds.
The breakfast room is a delight and so is the food. Local porridge is a firm favourite of my wifes!
There is a small kitchen in your 'suite' and with a stocked fridge with drinks and you can buy ready meals for the evening if you do not fancy a trip out. Having said that we enjoy visiting local restaurants and a list of local ones is provided.
This really is a touch above the usual bed and breakfast, just look at their website pictures to get a glimpse into the offerings!

My husband and I had fantastic stay at Penbontbren B&B. Welcomed by the lovely host Kathryn who took us to our beautiful suite. The room(s) was so spacious and decorated beautifully. The suite contained a kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. You also have a outside personal patio overlooking the beautiful gardens. The rooms are very well thought out and has lots of extras.

The suite had complementary home made Welsh cakes, bottled water including tea and coffee.
The room contained a mini bar.

The breakfast was exceptional.

The grounds were fantastic.

Our apartment at Penbontbren Farm B&B was spacious, luxuriously furnished, comfortable and well looked after. The housekeeper came in each day to tidy up and replenish items that had been used. We were made so welcome. There is a small kitchen with microwave and fridge which is well stocked with wines, beers, spirits, even olives. Each day we were treated to delicious homemade Welsh cakes, needles to say were devoured immediately. The breakfast, which is served in a delightful breakfast room across the courtyard, has a very good breakfast menu. The gardens are well tended to and there is even a croquet lawn. There are flowers, trees and shrubs everywhere and everything is so clean and tidy. Perfect for us. Absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be going again. We were so well looked after and catered for. The area is beautiful with lots of walks and not far from various beaches with lovely cafes and restaurants serving great food and drink
